The Nde Zachariah’s Descendants Foundation’s (NDES Foundation) journey began in 2019 when it was established by the dedicated family of Ma NDE Elizabeth and Pa NDE Zachariah, who lived in Buea, located in the South West region of Cameroon. Their enduring memory and legacy continue to drive the Foundation’s mission and values.
In tribute to their indomitable spirit and in response to the pressing needs of Cameroon’s most marginalized rural communities, the NDES Foundation was founded. Our core mission centers on facilitating self-reliance and long-term sustainability within these communities.
NDES predominantly operates within the North West and South West regions of Cameroon, particularly in the vicinity of 'Buea,' close to the family's cherished home. In these regions, daily life poses some of the most formidable challenges imaginable. These communities have endured generations of poverty, marked by limited access to basic necessities such as food, clean water, education, stable employment, and essential healthcare.
Over the past five years, the situation has been exacerbated by war, civil unrest, and governance issues. This compounding crisis has left approximately 1.5 million people in dire need of support, including 300 thousand vulnerable children who are at significant risk of abduction, human trafficking, and exploitation.
Families in these regions aspire to provide their children with a fundamental education and a safe, healthy environment in which to thrive. Yet, with one in three schools shuttered, extended power outages, limited internet access, and frequent lockdowns due to military unrest, the life prospects of children in the region remain severely restricted. This perpetuates a cycle of poverty, illness, and limited life opportunities.
The NDES Foundation is steadfastly committed to breaking this cycle. Our approach involves offering crucial support in education, healthcare, and infrastructure. By empowering these communities, we enable them to uplift themselves from poverty and embark on a path towards a brighter, more secure future. In line with our values of community, inclusion, and transparency, we work hand in hand with these resilient communities, honoring the legacy of Ma NDE Elizabeth and Pa NDE Zacharia and striving for meaningful, lasting change
